Interactive Performance Art
I invited netizens on the internet to design the personalities and storylines of my shoe monsters by uploading my personal daily vlogs and chatting with netizens via live shows. As a reaction to some netizens’ wishes, I let my shoe monster confront me through performance art at the opening ceremony of the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival. The shoe monsters refused to go on the red carpet due to its low self-esteem designed by some netizens, but I longed to stand under the spotlight. Finally, I took off one of my shoes, comforting it through a kiss and encouraging it to continue finishing the show with me.
I launched a vote on social media to attract more netizens to decide whether the shoe monster should be more of an extrovert or not. Over half of them voted for the “more positive personalities” option and 32% of them designed the following storylines. Based on netizens’ responses, I let the shoe monster took selfies with more audiences and made it communicate with them in the Q&A sections while I stood behind the stage, dubbing for it.
